Arts, Culture & Radio
Creativity has always been at the very heart of what we do at CEDA, and we work regularly with disabled artists and promote them and their work in a number of ways, for example by employing artists to run workshops and providing peer mentoring to people who use our service, as well as linking artists with each other via our Disability Artist Network online. We have also collaborated with artists on local projects and provide display space to exhibit their work at our centres and within the wider community. Our vision for the future is for disabled people to be able to even further showcase thier talents and skills, amplify thier voices and challenge societal perceptions via the development of a new Digital Media Hub. This will be a mix of physical and online spaces designed to foster digital creativity and innovation in the disabled community.
Culture
CEDA has led several projects related to Heritage and Exeter’s local history, with emphasis on inclusion and ensuring Exeter’s history and culture remains accessible for everyone. For example, a recent partnership with Exeter Historic Building Trust saw groups of disabled people visiting buildings they oversee to comment on accessibility and make suggestions about improvements.
Access all Aerials
From the studio at our Marsh Barton site, Access All Aerials (AAA) (link opens in new tab) is a community radio station, giving disabled people a voice on the airwaves. Broadcasting a mix of live and pre – recorded shows 24/7, the station is available across Exeter on DAB+ and everywhere on Smart Speakers, Mobile Apps, and online. Developed over the last 5 years and much – loved by all current participants, the station’s recently awarded DAB liscence has now given them scope for expanding this project even further. So far Access All Areials has provided many paid and volunteer opportunities for disabled people in broadcasting, production and marketing. The aim is to build on this success, creating even more opportunists for disabled people to express themselves creatively and develop skills.
